    Ways to support Ukraine 🇺🇦

    More than 500,000 people have already left Ukraine due to the invasion by the Russian Federation. The European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management estimates that roughly 18 million Ukrainians will be affected by the conflict in humanitarian terms, with 7 million internally displaced and 4 million seeking refuge elsewhere. To help those still in Ukraine, as well as Ukrainian refugees, we’ve compiled this list of resources.

    HelpUkraineWin.org has a collection of vetted and trusted resources, charities, and organizations to help Ukraine.

    Misinformation spreads fast on social media. It is more important than ever to share accurate, verifiable news and information. Here are some resources to learn how to identify misinformation:

    • This link from the nonprofit WITNESS shares tips for identifying authentic video sources (available in English, Spanish, Ukranian, Russian, and Arabic).
    • These visual verification tips, also from WITNESS, provide information on verifying images and videos (available in English and Spanish).
    • This interview with NPR contains tips for identifying fake TikToks.

    Please don’t watch his inauguration or any of his interviews, press briefings, or whatever. It will only infuriate you. I personally can only read reports in the press and can no longer look at or hear their monstrous voices.

    Plus Trump thrives on ratings. If nobody watches it will get under his skin like a New England tick carrying Lyme Disease.

    My great-aunt had a tumor and had to treat it with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. She was fully recovered. Do you know how much she paid for it? Not a dime.

    One of Brazil’s most famous tv show hosts who has been in show business for over 40 years with over 30 milion views had a kidney transplant this year. Do you know how much he paid for the transplant? Not a dime.

    When my mother is bored she walks a block up to the public health center and gets a check up. Do you know how much she pays for this? Not a dime.

    My mother has been going to the psychologist. Do you know much she has paid? Not a dime.

    Does this enrage you? It should. When Luigi said “this” was a insult to the American people’s intelligence he probably meant the mediatic circus around his person, but if we’re to be honest you could say the same about USA’s healthcare politics. Do not let them tell you it “has to be this way” and “there is no other way.” There is. You CAN have better healthcare. You DON’T have to sell your house to pay your medical debt. They are MAKING you do this ON PURPOSE. Don’t forget that.

    I don’t usually have any kindness to spare USAians, but we are with you in this one. The world is watching. You CAN turn this around! Don’t let them desincourage you.

    (via He’s Decompensating before Our Eyes)

    I don’t know if you remember this, but one of the reasons people gave for supporting Donald Trump in 2016 was that “he tells it like it is.” That was alarming for two reasons: one, he almost always lies; two, the few things he is honest about are his hatreds—of people of color, of immigrants, of women.

    Over time, we learned that, as far as the corporate media were concerned, all of that—the mendacity and the bigotry—was baked in. Eventually, the list of egregious things we were supposed to ignore grew to include Donald’s two impeachments, the big lie, an attempted insurrection against his own government, the theft of highly sensitive government documents, 93 indictments in four jurisdictions, being found liable for sexual assault and defamation, being found guilty of 34 felonies, his cruelty, his viciousness, his fascism and stochastic terrorism … I could go on, but you get the idea.

    It seemed unthinkable, but it was as if Donald had committed so many horrors, that instead of their being additive (which is generally how these things work), each new transgression replaced the one that came before, therefore, somehow canceling it out.

    Additional context. The short version is that there were legal battles that were preventing this from going into effect anyway and if the Biden administration ended up losing, the precedent set could make it harder to enact loan forgiveness in the future.

    Also worth noting:

    “The administration has also approved:

    $56.5 billion in student loan forgiveness for more than a million borrowers through Income-Driven Repayment plans;

    $28.7 billion in loan forgiveness for at least 1.6 million people who were misled or harmed by their school;

    $16.2 billion in medical-related discharges for around 572,000 borrowers via the Total and Permanent Disability discharge program.”

    Reblogging this version so people are well informed on what is actually happening

    Reminder, it was Republican politicians and Republicans on the Supreme court that nixed his initial attempt to forgive ALL student loans.

    As a result of the SCOTUS judgement democrats had to do piecemeal work arounds.

    Blame Republicans. They did it because they oppose anything that helps non-billionaires.

    How Reagan Destroyed the American Economy

    Reagan, who took office in 1981, enacted sweeping changes that would completely reshape the American economy and society. The introduction of his divisive “Reaganomics,” which provided massive tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans, would stagnate wages, increase national debt and create one of the largest income inequality gaps in the industrialized world.
